The 2024 Hong Kong Sociological Association (HKSA) Annual Conference was successfully held at Hong Kong Shue Yan University on December 6, 2024. The conference featured Professor Ekaterina Hertog from the Oxford Internet Institute and the Institute for Ethicsin AI at the University of Oxford as the keynote speaker. Professor Hertog delivered an inspiring speech titled "The Data Driven Parent: The Role of Digital Monitoring Technologies in Childcare," which explored how technologies shape families and how individuals, especially young people, negotiate with monitoring technologies.
A notable plenary panel at the conference was entitled "Sociological Research and Policy Impacts in Contentious Times." Esteemed scholars Professor Cheung Yuet-wah from Hong Kong Shue Yan University, Professor Anita Koo from HKBU, and Professor Suen Yiu-tung from CUHK provided engaging reflections on the challenges and strategies for turning sociological research into impactful policy cases.
The conference included 23 oral presentation panels, featuring a total of 106 papers. Over 100 registered participants from 27 universities and institutions across the HK, mainland China, and Macau attended the event.
