The 24th Hong Kong Sociological Association Annual Conference was successfully held at the Chinese University of Hong Kong on December 2, 2023. The conference featured Professor Jean Yeung (Provost-Chair Professor in the NUS Sociology Department and Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine) as the keynote speaker. Professor Yeung gave an inspiring speech on the topic 'Demographic Transition and Social Stratification in Asia'. The plenary panel of the conference was entitled 'Hong Kong Society: Between the Local and the Global'. Professor Lui Tai Lok from The Education University of Hong Kong, Professor Agnes Ku from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and Professor Adam Cheung from Hong Kong Baptist University provided an engaging reflection about Hong Kong academics' efforts to reconcile the tension between 'wanting to conduct research of local relevance and aspirations to speak to the global academic community'.
In addition, the conference had 32 oral presentation panels and 4 roundtables. In total, over 200 registered participants attended the conference. 145 papers (131 oral presentations and 14 roundtable presentations) were presented. The participants came from 59 universities/institutions based in the US, Singapore, the UK, Taiwan, mainland China, and Macau.
